| Live music as in at city parks or something.
I'm assuming it requires some ridiculous amount of grueling paperwork, and then some huge fee that no honest man can afford, but if anyone knows more about how to get one and any other details, they would be appreciated.
Also, do you have to be 18? |

| I know a few things from doing research when I was looking into trying to start a venue. First of all, the easiest city to get a live music permit in is probably Santa Ana, followed by maybe Fullerton. There was one building in Anaheim that Ryan and I found. We even met with the management to talk about the lease and whatnot. Then we called the city so we could total up all the fees and things that would have to be done. The lady that took our call was actually really helpful and told us like it is: the building I think was zoned for foot traffic (which is needed for a venue) so we had that going for us, but we would have to pay a couple thousand dollar fee to have someone from the city come out and calculate if there would be enough parking spots to accommodate our customers (people coming to see the show). If there wasn't enough parking spots we would be fucked, and that couple thousand dollars would go down the drain. Then, there was a fee to change the building to be being zoned for live music/night club... I think, or maybe that was part of the parking fee? Also, to have a business at all you would first need a DBA (Doing Business As) permit. The fee on that wasn't too bad, maybe a little less than $100. So, assuming that we had the DBA and there was enough parking spots we would need so have someone over the age of 18 with good credit (or credit at all) to sign the six month (at least) lease. I think the rent per month on that place was somewhere around 1,500 a month, so if we ran into some problem and were unable to continue doing shows we'd be stuck paying off the rest of the lease. Also, before you can open your doors for business you have to have your business inspected by the police/fire department so they can deem it safe. These details are a little fuzzy for me, maybe ryan can correct me on some things.
Bottom line is, there's a LOT of time and a LOT of money that goes into starting a venue. In no way is it easy, and there is a lot of risk involved... ESPECIALLY if you plan on having punk shows. |

| The reason I posted to permit large event permit is because the other one didn't have a "concert" listing which usually means that it isn't covered under that permit. Also, that it is Orange County, anything that the powers that be don't like usually means it costs twice as much. |
